Dr. Vallet receives Mark Rubin Research Grant on behalf of Music Against Myeloma
and the International Myeloma Foundation
As part of the 2007 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology in Atlanta, Dr. Vallet was recognized with the Mark Rubin research grant to help find a cure for Multiple Myeloma. This $25,000 grant was made possible through the efforts of Music Against Myeloma and all its supporters. "Everyone who has supported Music Against Myeloma should be proud of this accomplishment", said Slava Rubin, founder of Music Against Myeloma and son of Mark Rubin. "Through the effort of Dr. Vallet and others alike, we will beat this horrible disease and find a cure for cancer." The grant was presented by Susie Novis, president of IMF and Dr. Robert Kyle, Chair of the IMF Scientific Advisory Board.
Music Against Myeloma was started in memory of Mark Rubin, who passed away from Multiple Myeloma at age 43 on Nov. 8th, 1993. With a goal to raise awareness and funds for this lesser known form of cancer, "Music Against Myeloma” joins together with the International Myeloma Foundation to host the event each spring in New York City. “Every year the event gets bigger", said Matt Ostrower, the Artistic Director for Music Against Myeloma, "Until there is a cure we plan on rocking out to raise money and awareness".
